For centuries, southern Florida was considered by Europeans to be an inaccessible Eden, a place where Ponce de León died searching for gold. Despite attempts by a few hardy settlers, South Florida’s explosive growth occurred only after World War II. Dreams of a better life make such fervent growth possible. Florida Dreaming looks at the dreams (and their obstacles) that have compelled people to make South Florida their home.
The exhibition features contemporary, multi-generational artists who have lived or worked in South Florida and have contemplated, challenged, and inhabited this complex place of dreams.

Florida Dreaming is organized by Guest Curator Erica Ando (Artist and Art Writer), who earned her BFA from Parsons School of Design, MFA from Tyler School of Art, and PhD from Florida Atlantic University’s Comparative Studies Program. She is Assistant Curator of Education and American Art at the Norton Museum of Art, West Palm Beach.
