Art and Culture Center/Hollywood
1650 Harrison St, Hollywood, Florida 33020

Join us for the experiential, tactile, and the conversational with OUTSIDE IN, an exhibition cocurated by Laura Marsh and Jill Weisberg, PLUSH, and DEAR 33020.

OUTSIDE IN, focuses on artists working in both private and public spheres and includes site specific installations, sketches, and objects within the galleries, which attempt to define the parameters between painting and sculpture, graffiti, street art, and public art. Each public mural is a collaboration between an artist, the CRA, individual property owners, and Project Manager Jill Weisberg. The aim of OUTSIDE IN as an exhibition is to further define the importance of constructing dialogues between urban walls and activating everyday spaces. Participating artists: Andrew Antonaccio, Daniel Fila, Diana Contreras, Eduardo Mendieta aka Emo, Ernesto Maranje, Filio Galvez, Georgeta Fondos, Henning Haupt, Doug Hoekzema aka Hoxxoh, Jay Bellichi aka Remote, Jessy Nite, Kenny Scharf, Kenton Parker, Logan Hicks, The London Police, Michelle Weinberg, Nice’n Easy, Nicole Salcedo, Rone, Luis Pinto, Tati Suarez, TM Sisters, and Yenta.

PLUSH is a tactile mindscape curated by Laura Marsh. Textiles are inherently connected to the domestic environment. In the U.S., fiber art has often been mislabeled as craft or “women’s work.” However, in many countries, textile is considered men’s labor. Some of the works in this exhibition explore traditional sewing and hand techniques, while others explore non-conventional sculptural methods. This installation encourages viewers to take a seat on artist chairs and view the textiles on the wall as a carnivalesque Pokemon looms from above. Participating artists: Alissa Alfonso, Mora Barber, Tanja Boukal, Chiachio & Gainnone, Jen Clay, John O’Donnell, Aurora Molina, Norma Minkowitz, Sophia Narrett, and David Rohn.

Dear 33020 is an ongoing mail art project led by CT artist Margaret Roelke and in collaboration with FL artist Lisa Rockford, Artspace New Haven’s Curator Sarah Fritchey, and Center Curator Laura Marsh. The Center and Artspace will dedicate their windows to a slowly unfolding postcard correspondence in response to Trump’s first 100 days. At the Center, Roleke’s postcards form a grid that will eventually fill up to contain one image that reflects the current political climate in the newly named, Frosted Gallery of Correspondence. These artists are strangers, but both participated in mass demonstrations following the 2017 Presidential Inauguration. The curators are colleagues and have worked together for 7-years, who now work together to serve as bridges between communities.
