Thursday, January 19 at 6 PM – 7:30 PM
FAU Ritter Art Gallery
Boca Raton, Florida 33431

Join us for the opening exhibition of “Community Justice..” from 6:00 – 8:00pm at the Ritter Art Gallery (near the Library!)
Light bites and refreshments will be provided.

This exhibition focuses on the evolution and coalition building of youth radical community activist movements that became prominent in the late 1960s and early 1970, through organizations such as the Black Panther Party, The Young Lords, American Indian Movement, I Wor Kuen, Brown Berets, Dalit Panthers and Tupamaros, among others which exemplify the people’s vanguard for social change.

Presenting an extensive collection of underground newspapers, magazines, photographs, audio, films and other documents of these community activist organizations, “Community Justice: The Black Panther Party & Other Civil Rights Movements” illuminates this phenomenon that eventually led to both national and global societal changes in areas of state and local policies, healthcare, law, education, land-rights and housing. The exhibition furthers our understanding of these organizations and their long-term social impact.

Many thanks to Medgar Evers College | Archives and Collections, DePaul University Special Collections, Ilka Hartman, Stephen Shames, Jose ‘Cha Cha’ Jimenez, Norton Museum of Art and Chris Robe (FAU) for your participation and contributions.
