Urban development in South Florida is growing with ferocious velocity. This, unfortunately, has been extended to areas that are environmentally sensitive, which will have adverse impact. With thousands of acres of vacant or unused land within the county’s boundaries. I strenuously believe that our resources can be used in wiser and environmentally conscious ways. This can be achieved by rezoning more land from restricted commercial use, to mixed residential-commercial use; also, by lifting some existing arbitrary building height restrictions, and building more mixed-income developments. Other cities and counties around the country have successfully applied these solutions when faced with similar challenges. Many of the vacant lots are located in the northern district of The Greater Miami, which is the area traversed on my daily commute. Chronicling some of these spaces in this collection is my modest contribution to summon attention and garner viable, robust solutions.
